In the highly competitive premium skincare market, user experience is paramount. A renowned skincare brand from Germany recently partnered with us to solve a critical usability issue with their best-selling stainless steel gua sha tool. While the original product was visually stunning, end-users frequently reported that the smooth metal handle became too slippery when used with facial oils, making it difficult to maintain proper pressure during massages. Upon receiving the brief, our engineering and R&D teams conducted a comprehensive analysis of the existing tool. We identified that the uniform metal cylinder lacked necessary friction and optimal contouring. To resolve this, we proposed an innovative dual-material structural redesign. Our team suggested retaining the medical-grade 304 stainless steel for the functional scraping edge to preserve its cooling properties and hygiene, while integrating a custom-molded, soft-touch silicone grip onto the handle.
To ensure absolute durability and prevent material separation over time, we engineered specific mechanical locking structures within the mold and adjusted the internal curves for superior facial contouring. We rapidly generated precise 3D models and produced multiple tactile prototypes for the client's rigorous testing. After refining the silicone thickness and perfecting the ergonomic angles based on their feedback, we delivered a final product that beautifully contrasted the polished steel blade with the matte silicone handle.
The result was a massive commercial success. The new design completely eliminated the slipping issue, significantly elevating the daily skincare routine for thousands of users.
